Education

The Hospice provides a range of education opportunities for the multi-professional team and volunteers.

The aim is to ensure that all staff have the appropriate qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills in order for them to provide the best possible specialist palliative care to patients and their families.

The Hospice Education Facilitator organises education events and supports staff in their Continuing Professional Development.

An education programme on a range of topics runs throughout the year consisting of:

·          Study days

·          Short teaching sessions

·          Workshops

·          Journal Club

Some of these sessions are also available to other professionals in the community and local care homes in order to support them in the provision of good quality palliative and end of life care.

The Hospice is committed to sharing knowledge and expertise in a palliative approach to care.  Bespoke education programmes are provided to local care homes to meet the needs of the individual organisation.

The Hospice has close links with the University of the West of Scotland and Glasgow University.  A full range of relevant courses are available to staff.  Members of staff also participate with teaching on palliative care University modules.

In addition Hospice staff undertake clinical training sessions and work based learning projects in order to extend their skills and knowledge.  Attendance at conferences and external study days in specialist palliative care is encouraged.

The Hospice also provides a clinical placement for student nurses, medical students and health and social care students from further education colleges.
